18 April 2017

Loads of top stuff this week, so let's get at it.

Post War Glamour Girls - Pollyanna Cowgirl
Another track from the Leeds up-and-comers' new album, Swan Songs which is out next Friday.

The St Pierre Snake Invasion - Dick E Mozart
More noise from the Bristolian outfit. This is part of a double-A release due May 26.

Deny All Robots - Meesces
This appeared on the Lichfielder's EP Crash that came out last year, but has just had a video published.

The Orielles - Sugar Tastes Like Salt
To Halifax, Nova Scotia now and an 8-minute epic which marks their first release for new label Heavenly.

Christian Fitness - Bees Mode
Andy Falkous returns with part 4 of his side-project, Slap Bass Hunks. Due imminently.

BEAK> - Sex Music
Portishead's Geoff Barrow is back with his side-project BEAK> and a new single slated for a launch in June.

The New Pornographers - Play Money
A new LP from the Vancouver veterans. Whiteout Conditions is their seventh studio album and is out now.

Touts - Sold Out
A debut single from highly-rated Derry trio, pitched as being somewhere in the cleft between the Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers. Praise indeed.

Los Peyotes - Bdaaa!!!
A few years old this, but stuff it. Los Peyotes are an Argentinian/Peruvian four-piece and this is off what remains their latest album, 2010s Garage O Muerte. Just brilliant.

Yah - Dungeness Bank Holiday
Dean Cavanagh is Yah and this will be released next month as part of his label's 3rd anniversary, that being Rhode Island's Filthy Broke Recordings.

Factory Seconds - Caught In The Layers
The latest one from Art Is Hard records postcard club which continues to be a source of delight.

Peter Perrett - How The West Was Won
Former Only Ones frontman with the title track to his first solo LP. Out June 30.

Xam Duo - Tisch Tennis
A quirky offering with more than a hint of Kraftwerk about it. This is out on Wednesday.

Steve Cobby - Arvan
A previously unreleased track from the late 1990s, very much in the ambient bracket.

21 March 2017

'Ow do.

The Physics House Band - The Astral Wave
The mini-LP Mercury Fountain is their first release since 2014. Welcome back.

Sir Robert Orange Peel - Deep Water
Last time we heard these was putting music behind Mark E Smith reading the classified football results. This is off their debut LP Sir Robert Orange Peel volume 1.

Rosie Doonan - Feel Love
I make no bones about it - I adore Rosie Doonan.

Stnnng - The Last Nostalgia
Don't know much about these, but the LP is Veterans Of Pleasure and it's out on April 1.

All Them Witches - Bulls
Flat out stoner rock - desert rock they call it - from Nashville, TN. Sleeping Through The War is the album.

Post War Glamour Girls - Organ Donor
The hotly anticipated third album from the Leeds outfit is Swan Songs out on April 17.

Pulco - Moose
New one from Welsh DIYer and friend of the show Ash Cooke from the new EP Silex.

The Jeepers - Light Up
From Kolkata and off the album Within Conversations which came out on the 11th of March.

Machynlleth Sound System - Strata Florida
Now that is a band name I can get behind. Welsh, would you believe. Their second EP is called MSM2 and is out now.

Tigercub - Control
Brighton based trio whose new single is out now.

Great Ytene - Locus
This London based psych rock band released their self-titled debut in 2014. The year after, they lost an album's worth of tracks down a technological black hole and it's taken this long to come back with a new set. Locus is the LP and it's out now.

The Evil Usses - Gambino
Beefheart-esque stuff from Bristol off the new LP Amateur Pro Wrestling. Out on March 31.

Not Waving - 24
London club sound from the LP Animals out on Powell's Diagonal label.

Dementio13 - Doug McClure
House favourite Paul Foster returns with the LP Goo, out now.

Ghost Culture - Coma
And finally, some more housey housey off the new EP Nucleus.

See you next week

30 August 2016

That time again

Fat White Family - Breaking Into Aldi
Not that we endorse the policy, Lias of the band explains ""This song is a post apocalyptic vision of a barely united United Kingdom bereft of quality German supermarkets and their insipid low prices; 'Breaking Into Aldi' is the anthem that never was, a call to arms for the senselessness of our future futility, an overcrowded shadow begging for a rerun, a sell out by sell outs for sell outs."

Fews - 100 Goosebumps
Taken from their LP MEANS which is getting well-deserved excellent reviews.

The Wave Pictures - The Running Man
A new track from the forthcoming LP Bamboo Diner In The Rain which promises to be excellent as ever. These lads are prolific.

Featured album: I, Ludicrous - It's like Everything Else
Three English Football Grounds
Preposterous Tales
The most underrated band in history, perhaps by their own singular lack of pursuit of fame. It's Like Everything Else was their first album, released in 1987. Little has changed, musically speaking, since.

Salary - Mini Moke
From Fremantle in Australia, this single came out in June.

Post War Glamour Girls - Welfare By Prozac
This is out on a split single with Menace Beach as the two Leeds bands celebrate Jumbo Records' 45th anniversary.

Bernaccia - Power To The Hills
To Newcastle next for some classy rock. This is their debut single with an LP knocking about somewhere soon.

Maggie8 - Connected
Back to Leeds and this is off a split single with our friends Ceiling Demons which comes out on September 23.

Teleman - Tangerine
The latest single taken from their second album Brilliant Sanity.

Toy - Fast Silver
A new track, and a portent of the new album Clear Shot which is due in autumn.

Featured album: I, Ludicrous - It's like Everything Else
Fabulous
This is all you need to know about I, Ludicrous. Piercing social comment and small-town tales wrapped in a dry humour.

The Rifles - Wall Around Your Heart
Off the album Big Life.

Sweet Williams - Come Swimming
A cover of a record by Plummets. The album Please let Me Sleep On Your Tonight is out on September 23.

The Immediate - Pockets
To Mold in North Wales off the EP Shadows And Ghosts with a full album to follow.

Fews - 10 Things (TVAM remix)
Another track from Fews which has been breathed on by Wiganer Joe Oxley in his TVAM guise.

Back in a week.

22 July 2014

I'm really not with it. My prescription is playing havoc with my head, so this is rather phoned in this week. Indeed, I can only really provide you a list of tracks and minimal commentary. Bear with me - my head will straighten out in time.

St Etienne - DJ
Great star. I reckon I'd not get bored listening to Sara Cracknell reading the phone book.

Kill It Kid - I'll Be The First

Cruising - You Made Me Do That
Noisy, like we like it.

Cover Version Corner
Hasil Adkins/Druggy Pizza - Chicken Walk
I was looking for something else by Druggy Pizza, found this and figured why not?

Art Brut - Emily Kane
Because why not

High Hazels - Misbehave
New, excellent, record of the week

Some Minor Noise - Deadhead
*bad word warning*

The Crookes - Yes, Yes, We're Magicians
From a while ago, but what the hey?

Post War Glamour Girls - Gustave
*another bad word warning*

The Field - No No (John Tejada remix)

One Degree of Separation
Big In Japan - Nothing Special
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes (Peel session)
Holly Johnson, innit

Kordian Trudny - Zdrada
He's from Katowice. The album is called Katowice. It's dead good. Sounds like Gary Numan.

Deleted Soul - Kumbacha
So much going on in here. Delightful.

Tourist - Together
Perfect closer.

Here's that on YouTube:

And Soundcloud:

I'll try to be more focused next week, but I'll still be on these meds so chances of that are slim. Ah well.
