18 April 2017

Loads of top stuff this week, so let's get at it.

Post War Glamour Girls - Pollyanna Cowgirl
Another track from the Leeds up-and-comers' new album, Swan Songs which is out next Friday.

The St Pierre Snake Invasion - Dick E Mozart
More noise from the Bristolian outfit. This is part of a double-A release due May 26.

Deny All Robots - Meesces
This appeared on the Lichfielder's EP Crash that came out last year, but has just had a video published.

The Orielles - Sugar Tastes Like Salt
To Halifax, Nova Scotia now and an 8-minute epic which marks their first release for new label Heavenly.

Christian Fitness - Bees Mode
Andy Falkous returns with part 4 of his side-project, Slap Bass Hunks. Due imminently.

BEAK> - Sex Music
Portishead's Geoff Barrow is back with his side-project BEAK> and a new single slated for a launch in June.

The New Pornographers - Play Money
A new LP from the Vancouver veterans. Whiteout Conditions is their seventh studio album and is out now.

Touts - Sold Out
A debut single from highly-rated Derry trio, pitched as being somewhere in the cleft between the Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers. Praise indeed.

Los Peyotes - Bdaaa!!!
A few years old this, but stuff it. Los Peyotes are an Argentinian/Peruvian four-piece and this is off what remains their latest album, 2010s Garage O Muerte. Just brilliant.

Yah - Dungeness Bank Holiday
Dean Cavanagh is Yah and this will be released next month as part of his label's 3rd anniversary, that being Rhode Island's Filthy Broke Recordings.

Factory Seconds - Caught In The Layers
The latest one from Art Is Hard records postcard club which continues to be a source of delight.

Peter Perrett - How The West Was Won
Former Only Ones frontman with the title track to his first solo LP. Out June 30.

Xam Duo - Tisch Tennis
A quirky offering with more than a hint of Kraftwerk about it. This is out on Wednesday.

Steve Cobby - Arvan
A previously unreleased track from the late 1990s, very much in the ambient bracket.

Don't think I'm about next week, so 193 will have to wait.

11 April 2017

Good evening.

The Smith Street Band - Death To The Lads
Because, frankly, lad culture's death cannot come too soon and shall not be mourned. Off the Melbourne outfit's fourth LP More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me.

The Gods Themselves - Tech Boys
Do they mean me? Possibly. Anyway, I don't even have a moustache. These are from Seattle and the album Be My Animal came out in January.

She Drew The Gun - No Hole In My Head
A cover of a 1960s protest song by Malvina Reynolds, this is on the album Memories Of Another Future which came out last month.

Lichen Gumbo - Country Boy
To Finland next and a stripped down piece off the album Boilin'. About as lo-fi as it gets.

Kingsley Chapman and The Murder - Dead Horses
The last ever track from these. Sad times. Still worth following on social media though as Chapman pursues other avenues.

Local Girls - Yeah Roy
You know it's all about new music, but this is over 4 years old now. Well I heard it in the week and I like it and so I'm playing it. Off the album Deluxe Kicks.

Odd Couple - Am I Evil?
Berlin now, and a track off the album Flügge which came out last winter. Very psych.

Shrinking Minds - Something Better
More psych-influenced stuff now, this time from Liverpool's next big thing. This came out on March 3.

Rift|Fault - Bike Lane
Friend of the show Nat Lyon with his new project, a collaboration with Aimee Kanzler. The EP is EP001 and came out April 1.

The Darling Buds - Complicated
New stuff from The Darling Buds, their first stuff in over 25 years. The EP is called Evergreen and is out on the 21st.

Clustersun - Raw Nerve
To Catania in Italy now and isn't this good? The LP Surfacing To Breathe is out in May.

Drahla - Fictional Decision
Bit closer to home now for some drone/fuzz from Leeds. This came out last autumn.

Sal Boca - Feel The Life
More great stuff from Paul Foster, aka Dementio13, this time along with Caroline Moore, Claire James and Neil McCann. Recorded between 2001 and 2002, it was released last month.

Kelly Lee Owens - Anxi ft Jenny Hval
Off the terrific self-titled album which is out now from the frankly ridiculously talented Owens. She'll go far.

Die Verboten - White Island
Another one from a wee while ago, 2015 in fact. Die Verboten are the Dewaele brothers, David and Stephen, who you may be more familiar with in their Soulwax guise. Off the LP 2007, confusingly.

That'll do you for a week, I reckon.

4 April 2017

Mik Artistik's Ego Trip - David Bowie Was A Funny Man
A touching tribute to the Thin White Duke. I didn't know his dad were from Donny. I do now.

Cyanide Pills - Stop And Search
Leeds punks bring their political sounds to their new LP Sliced And Diced. Came out last month.

Gnod - Bodies For Money
No better day to play this as our Prime Minister travels to Saudi Arabia to flog arms and is more bothered about a false story about removing the word 'Easter' from things than she is about... oh, I dunno.... FLOGGING ARMS TO THE SAUDIS FFS.
From Salford krautrockers who clearly know I'm a sucker for an album title. Just Say No To The Psycho Right-Wing Capitalist Fascist Industrial Death Machine. Out last Friday.

Priests - Puff
More punky type stuff now, this time from Washington DC. The LP Nothing Feels Natural came out in January.

Neville Staple - Return Of Judge Roughneck
The former Specials and Fun Boy Three man is back with an album of his own, this being the title track. Came out in February.

Desperate Journalist - Be Kind
Off the new LP Grow Up. Very highly rated band and this came out last week.

Pale Kids - Prayer List
To Durham now for a track from the new EP Holy Mess which is out on Friday.

Alimony Hustle - Miss GB
Probably the only record about Zara Holland being stripped of the Miss GB title for having sex on Love Island or whatever. This is the title track of the new LP which came out a week ago.

Ashley Reaks - Ghost Town In My Heart
A change of pace for Harrogate's Reaks with the new album Here's To The Good Life. It's a bit less experimental and more upbeat, even if there's a hint of Nick Cave on this one. Out on Friday.

Saint Etienne - Heather
Woo-hoo, a new Saint Etienne album! Home Counties is coming soon, five years on from Words And Music By... and here's a teaser.

Happyness - Falling Down
A new one from the Londoners off Write In which is out next week.

Hashfinger - Kites
Title track from the new one from Bradford beatmakers which is out on May 4.

Bocawoody - Jump feat BluRum13
Boca 45 and DJ Woody team up again in the Bocawoody guise on the new one Carousel.

Coldcut x On-U - Divide And Rule feat Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Junior Reid and Elan
Belter. Coldcut team up with Ashley Sherwood of On-U Sound and bring in a range of collaborators on the album Outside The Echo Chamber, few finer than the evergreen innovator Lee 'Scratch' Perry who recently turned 81.

Greymatter - Burning 4 U
And to finish, a dancefloor stomper from Graham Luckhurst, co-chief of the essential Mr Bongo label. Off the album No Blood Without.
